DOUBLE GRANITE MONUMENTS

A companion monument holds two names beneath one surname—a single stone for a shared life.

It is wider than a single monument so the two names sit comfortably side by side on a shared granite base. Most companion memorials are chosen while one spouse is still living; it is a practical, kind thing to do for the family that comes after. The stone is engraved with both names and one set of dates, and the second date is cut later.

That second inscription is standard work for us. We return to the cemetery and match the original lettering exactly—the same style, depth, and hand—so the two dates look like they were always meant to be there.

The design carries across the whole face: a shape carved rose or scroll on either side, wedding rings or joined hearts in the center, a shared religious emblem, or two panels divided by a column or one combined panel. Granite runs from traditional gray to black, mahogany, and India red (remember that darker stone is required for photo-etched portraits).
